OVERVIEW
Kia expanded its electric lineup in India with the launch of the Carens Clavis EV – a pioneering move in the family electric MPV segment. The Carens EV appeals to families and urban commuters who prioritize space, comfort, and eco-friendliness without compromising on technology or performance.
KEY FEATURES
The Carens Clavis EV’s dimensions (4550 mm length, 1800 mm width, 1730 mm height, and 2780 mm wheelbase) ensure a commanding road presence and generous interior space. The MPV silhouette is complemented by bold styling cues, including a distinctive front end, stylish alloy wheels (16 or 17-inch), and signature LED lighting.
Inside, the Carens EV is a true 7-seater, making it suitable for large families or shared urban rides. The flexible seating system features one-touch tumble and ‘Boss Mode’ for the second row, with a seatback folding table and up to 216 liters of boot space for luggage or weekly shopping.
Clavis comes with two battery options: a 42 kWh standard pack and a 51.4 kWh long-range pack. The 51.4 kWh variant delivers a remarkable 490 km claimed range on a full charge (MIDC cycle), while the 42 kWh version is rated at 404 km – making both options suitable for city commutes and occasional weekend getaways.
The EV is powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor, with two power outputs: 99 kW (135 PS, 225 Nm torque) for the standard variant and 126 kW (171 PS, 255 Nm torque) for the long-range model. This allows for brisk acceleration, with 0-100 km/h completed in as little as 8.4 seconds for the higher-powered version.
Charging is quick and convenient: the battery can be replenished from 10% to 80% in just 39 minutes using a 100 kW DC fast charger. Home AC charging (11 kW) takes around 4 hours 45 minutes for a full top-up.
Kia has loaded the Carens EV with features like 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 12-inch digital instrument cluster for crisp driving information, Panoramic sunroof, roof-mounted AC vents, and multi-color ambient lighting. Clavis comes with multiple drive modes (Eco, City, Sport), regenerative braking (four levels), and paddle shifters. On safety side, Clavis comes with full suite of ADAS safety features, including lane keeping, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot monitoring.
PRICE
The Kia Carens Clavis EV is priced starting from approximately ₹18 lakh to ₹24.49 lakh (ex-showroom) in India, depending on the variant and battery pack chosen. This price range positions it competitively in the electric MPV segment, offering a blend of spaciousness, advanced technology, and zero-emission driving suitable for families and urban commuters.
